Jadeja's all-round guide CSK to easy win over Deccan

Ravindra Jadeja produced an all-round performance to help defending champions Chennai Super Kings register their first win in the tournament, defeating Deccan Chargers by 74 runs in an Indian Premier League match here today.

Coming at a crucial juncture, Jadeja first hit a quickfire 29-ball 48 and then scalped five wickets for 16 to put Chennai back to winning ways after they lost the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians by eight wickets.

After Jadeja's show with the bat, West Indian Dwayne Bravo played a special unbeaten knock of 18-ball 43 towards the end to propel Chennai to an imposing 193 for six at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here.

Murali, de Villiers guide Bangalore to an easy win

Bangalore: Their total wasn’t a competitive one but inspired performances from their bowlers led by marquee spinner Muttiah Muralitharan got Royal Challengers Bangalore campaign kick off on a winning note against Delhi Daredevils on Saturday.

Called into bat by Virender Sehwag, Daniel Vettori’s side posted a par score of 157 runs at Chinnaswamy stadium replying to which Delhi fell short by 20 runs.

Bangalore’s innings was given a substance by their South African recruit AB de Villiers who struck a brilliant half-century to guide them to a respectable total after half their side had surrendered with 85 runs on the scoreboard.

Jaipur: The South African all rounder Johan Botha has asserted that his team Rajasthan Royals would continue with its policy of supporting young players in the side when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL match on Sunday.

Insisting that there were no plans of shielding Ashok Menaria from quickies like Brett Lee and M De Lange by sending him down the order instead of playing him at number three, Botha said, "Ashok is a talented player and has played few fine innings last year.

Jadeja stars in Chennai’s victory over Hyderabad

Visakhapatnam: Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance helped Chennai Super Kings beat Deccan Chargers in the sixth match of Indian Premier League played at Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Jadeja who scored valuable 48 runs also picked up a five wicket haul as Chennai demolished Hyderabad by 74 runs. Apart from Jadeja, other batsmen who made useful contributions with the bat were Faf du Plesis (39) and Bravo (43). Bravo in particular played a brilliant cameo as he scored 43 runs off just 18 balls which included 23 runs that came of the last over. Apart from Steyn and Daniel Christian, none of the bowlers managed to dry the run flow. Both the bowlers picked up two wickets each.
